Concrete Stain Colors
When I first branched off into concrete refinishing I was using the stains that the local concrete supplier carried. I tried out a bunch of different brands with limited success. The concrete stain colors pigment was super weak with one brand. I stained the floors of an entire two bedroom home but it looked like I hadn’t applied any stain. I called the rep and he said the sealer would “pop” the color. Well, needless to say, it didn’t. That was a nightmare to strip and redo.
Another brand created a film on the top of the concrete which made it harder for the surface sealer to bond to. I had two instances where the topcoat had peeled up because the bond broke… weak!
For instance, another brand of stain left a powdery substance on the concrete. The rep said to dust mop the floor before sealing. You mean I have to dust mop a 2,000 square foot floor a couple times over before sealing? Picture me sighing and shaking my head…
Here’s another example… I was in a flash fire using an acetone based stain as well. We almost burnt down a multi-million dollar condo building because we didn’t unplug the fridge. That one was scary for sure!
Plus all of these brands had to be mixed or diluted with distilled water or something. Which just added to the complexity of the applications.
Not to mention acid stains… neutralizing them was a b*tch! I had to use so much water and baking soda, then rinse all of that, the concrete never dried out. It would take weeks for the concrete to dry after acid staining. Very frustrating. I knew I had to find better brand of concrete stain.
New Opportunity
Some years later one of the companies I ordered stone products from told me they started making concrete stain. They had sent me a quart but it sat on a shelf for a couple of months. One day I decided to give their brand a try… and I was amazed. No mixing, strong pigment and vibrant colors, this made me really happy. I switched over to their brand and I haven’t used another brand since. For years now I’ve used the Color Mist brand concrete stain and I’ve personally applied well over 100,000 square feet of stain on over 100 jobs. I hit the jackpot!
After that, the chemist that formulated the Color Mist concrete stain sold his company and is exclusively creating products for the concrete industry. Concrete Chemistries is his new company and he’s reformulated the Color Mist stain to be more vibrant and bright, now with 18 different colors to choose from. Now we’re distributing these awesome concrete stain colors to DIYers like yourself along with contractors and commercial applicators alike.
