Sweating Concrete
Does your concrete sweat like a pig? Like when you set something down on the concrete, move it later and there’s a wet spot where the item was? Sweating concrete not good.
I’ve seen this problem many times when I’m resurfacing concrete. Usually when there’s high humidity or excessive moisture in the ground soil around the slab. The porous concrete holds the water like a sponge… then bacteria starts to grow… and then you get the “musty basement” smell going on. Very unpleasant to say the least. Plus it slowly breaks down the concrete creating problems in the future. Most people just slap some wet look sealer over the concrete which just traps the water and breaks the bond of the sealer… which makes the sealer peel up… and that looks awful. Getting that sealer off the concrete is quite a project too. Go ahead and try, it’s not fun.
Solutions
Anyways, some years back I came across this product which permanently waterproofs concrete completely eliminating this problem all together. Since then I use this sealer on almost every job and my clients couldn’t be happier. How it works is the sealer penetrates super deep into the concrete and as it cures it crystallizes through the substrate, filling any voids and waterproofing the slab. Bacteria is killed and not allowed back into the substrate… and that means no more musty smells! It’s awesome because it’s pretty cheap and easy to apply. Usually I’ll dry sand the concrete to open up the pores and so I don’t add any extra water into the substrate. Vacuum up the area, then I either spray it on to stamped, broom finished, or smooth concrete. Keep it wet with sealer for about 15 minutes and you’re done. Super simple.
