Seal Before Coating Your Floor
Do you want to put down a floor coating in your garage or warehouse but there’s moisture problems in the concrete? Have you taped down the plastic square for a day just to come back to a darker colored concrete under the plastic? It’s frustrating. Moisture and efflorescence will eventually break the bond of any floor coating making it peel up… and trust me, you definitely don’t want that. But what do you do? Well, you seal before coating your floor.
Solutions
It took me a while to figure this problem out. I was going out to job sites moisture testing day after day… sometimes the moisture would go away after a couple weeks and sometimes the moisture in the slab never went away. I wasted a lot of gas and labor traveling to the places just to leave frustrated. Something had to change. Luckily I found a sealer that solves that problem once and for all. It’s great, you just mop it around for 20 minutes or so and let it soak in. It crystallizes through the concrete permanently waterproofing it. After it’s fully cured within a day or two you can safely apply any floor coating. You just put it down after the floor is prepped, before applying epoxy paints, flake systems, metallic epoxies, polyureas, or any specialty coatings for that matter.
What Others Do
For example, a lot of garage floor coating companies use epoxies as their base coat. These epoxies hold back hydrostatic pressure. Unfortunately these coatings can’t be applied to concrete with moisture problems. Secondly, they don’t address the underlining issue which is moisture in the concrete. In other words, they just put a Band-aid on the problem. The concrete will hold that moisture under the coating and slowly deteriorate over time. Not to mention, epoxies yellow and deteriorate in UV light… which is NOT good.
What Makes Creto DPS Unique
For instance, Creto DPS seals the concrete without being hydrophobic. This means, unlike most other penetrating sealers, a topical coating can be applied over the concrete after it has fully cured. To clarify, this is very unique to this product. It’s the only penetrating sealer I use BEFORE applying a floor coating. There’s other penetrating sealers like Resist All which prevent staining and are hydrophobic, meaning beads up when on top of the concrete. But sealers like Resist All will reject a floor coating if it’s applied over it.
