How To Hire A Contractor With Integrity
I recently got burned by a contractor that hired me (Subcontracted) and never paid me the full amount that was owed for my services. Emails and phone calls were made with no response, not even a “F you!” for closure. Business ethics seem to be disappearing from our society as the US degenerates into a third world nation. The evolution of computers and the internet has removed the human interaction from business. This leads to people acting in ways that they would never act like face to face. Here are three ways you can prevent this from happening in your life…

- If the contractor you are communicating with sends emails with broken, unfinished sentences and misspelled words, run away as fast as you can! If the person or company doesn’t take the time to write in proper English it means that they are sub-consciously not willing to perform a task correctly or take that task to completion. They don’t care! If you ask them about this they will tell you some excuse, the same excuses will come after they screw up your project. Look for a contractor with a thorough website with no misspelled words or broken links.
- Get everything in writing! This concept is not rocket science but you would be surprised how often it doesn’t happen in the rush to complete a job. I also recommend to go over potential problems that can arise and get them to write down in the contract what they would do to fix these problems if they happen. This lets the contractor know that you are thorough and you are more likely to hold them accountable if they mess up.
- Review them! Let the contractor know that you have read their reviews and you will be giving them a review after the job is completed, no matter if it’s good or bad. This levels the playing field for the consumer and lets the contractor know you get down to business. Giving a company a bad review is sometimes the best thing you can do for them. A company with integrity will learn from their mistakes and grow from the experience. Unethical companies will ignore these, continue to do bad work, and eventually go out of business.
